A Chiropodist's Scope of Practice ( Podiatric Medicine ) involves examination assessment and treatment of disease, disorder and dysfunction of the foot and lower extremity by therapeutic, surgical, orthotic and palliative means. Chiropody is practiced by qualified, regulated practitioners who have undergone goverment established and recognized programs and examinations. Only those who are registered by the Ontario College Of Chiropodists are licensed to practice as Chiropodists or Podiatrists.
Gord Pranschke, our Chiropodist, is specifically interested in the study of biomechanics and its application to improper foot and lower extremity function, patho-mechanics. He specializes in creating custom orthotics for shoes, skates and ski boots, as well as ski boot fitting.
His Philosophy is that of providing foot orthoses that will improve the overall active dynamic function of the foot by assisting in improved range of motion. This is achieved by using a unique casting technique developed over years of practice along with flexible and cushioning materials that work with the foot rather than acting like a rigid passive brace, like so many other orthotics being dispensed.
Chiropody services are covered by most 3rd party health insurance companies such as Sunlife for example (PSHCP).
Chiropodists specialize with ailments such as:
- Heel spur syndrome
- Plantar fasciitis
- Hammer/claw toes
- Recurrent ankle instability/sprains
- Achilles tendonitis
- Patellofemoral pain syndrome
- Iliotibial band syndrome
- Leg length discrepency
- Hip and lower back pain
- Excessive callus/corns and ingrown toenails.
