Community Acupuncture (CA) is the group approach to Traditional Chinese Medicine. This style of treating patients remains more common in areas of the world where Eastern and Western medicine are practiced integratively, and has recently gain popularity in North America. In a community setting, groups of patients are treated simultaneously. By treating multiple patients at once, the cost for treatment is less and care becomes more accessible.
How does it work?
Typical CA clinics have between 5 and 10 treatment chairs or tables in a shared, open space. The intake is performed in a whisper and normally takes 10 to 20 minutes. It involves a condensed interview, along with tongue and pulse diagnosis. The practitioner then takes a few moments to determine the appropriate treatment plan. Once the needles are inserted (or other treatments are applied), patients rest for as long as they like. In fact, most patients tend to fall asleep during treatment.
How much does it cost?
Community acupuncture treatments at Vis Tree cost $25. Most CA clinics offer a sliding scale payment system that ranges anywhere between $15 and $50. At Vis Tree, we like to keep it simple, so we offer one rate for everyone. We feel that $25 is a fair price for a one-hour acupuncture treatment that is provided in a group setting.
Do I need to be a naturopathic patient in order to access the Community Acupuncture clinic?
We accept anyone interested in receiving acupuncture treatment, whether you are an existing patient of the naturopathic clinic or not. In fact, we encourage even our naturopathic patients to receive acupuncture in a group setting, unless they prefer to have acupuncture in private.
